In the Beginning......
I never expected to be here right now. My mother, had dementia. I was expecting a slow deteriorating death. Something that might take up to 10 years or more. I just spent a fortune, doing things throughout the house. I completely redid 90% of the downstairs. Bought new TV for both my mother and her aide. Just spend like $7000.00 to get my mother community medicaid. Just renewed my Costco Membership because there are things she liked from there.
On St. Patrick's Day my mother had a massive stroke and a heart attack. From there she stayed in ICU for 4 days, moved to a regular room for 2 days and then to Hospice Inn where she passed away on March 26th, 2017 at around 3 am. Since then, I have had to deal with the little details.
Detail 1 was the hours. Originally my mother wanted 2 days of viewing, but after talking with members of family I did not think 2 days were warranted.
Detail 2 was Garments. Jane M. and my mother picked the dress she wanted to wear. That and the jewelry. Well, we forgot underwear, pantyhose, bra. I thought I would get Jane M. to take care of the lady stuff.
Detail 3 was Calls. As details came up I tried to remember everyone that needed to be called. My God....Every time I turned around there was another person to call. When you are planning your own funeral please leave a phone list of those people whom you would like to notify.
Throughout ALL of this, I had no friends or family to hold and no shoulder to cry on. I had to do this all alone. I also had to push through with my depression and had at least two anxiety attacks where I crawled up in a ball and tried to stay there forever.
I then had to deal with the idea of "What's next?"
I can't afford this place by myself. Everything here is expensive and the government that taxes us like crazy. and we have a cost of living described as "alarming".
So that's where we are, can't stay, don't know where to go.
